Meco holster and Boberg XR9-S

Boberg XR9-S “platinum” edition. It’s the most advanced pistol design out there, with a long barrel in a short slide, excellent trigger, great accuracy and minimal felt recoil. I am very much a fan. I mentioned Meco holsters before. 1 … Continue reading

A dreaded assault pistol (by California law)

This 1910 Bergmann, a 6-shot 9mm pistol, is ruled a banned assault weapon by California regulations. Semi-automatic with magazine outside the grip is evil incarnate in the eyes of their lawmakers. That’s a pretty crazy, but then what isn’t about … Continue reading

Steyr C9-A1

Way back in 2002 or so, I tried a Steyr M9. I liked the trigger, the thin comfortable grip and the lack of recoil, wasn’t sure about the sights and really did not care for the safety lever placement. Ten … Continue reading

Bersa Thunder 9

Had a chance to shoot this 17-shot 9mm pistol recently. Interesting weapons, a pistol equivalent of police Crown Victoria Interceptor, heavy, solid and reliable. Quite accurate, with very minimal recoil. I used it to train a new shooter who found … Continue reading

You can’t ride like that!

These two are well equipped for the the less common human road hazards, but they are missing leather and helmets for the more usual perils. It takes both — and good judgment — to be safe.

Iver Johnson Sealed 8 revolver

Model 844, 1950s production. The backs of the chambers are recessed to enclose the case heads, which isn’t a bad idea with rimfire cartridges. The front of the cylinder is extended to reduce the forcing cone flash. Ejection of all … Continue reading

Custom Dragon Leather holster

I posted photos of a custom PMR30 holster earlier this year. Now Dennis came out of a Glock variant of it. This design works especially well for women, keeping the pistol grip out of the way of elbows and ribs.

So, you’d like to date my daughter…

This young lady can fend for herself just fine, but you have to admit that the first impression made by the dad also counts. I also recommend a sensible comment by my friend Dave.

Today’s range trip.

Grace wanted more trigger time with her laser-equipped LCR. Ended up trying that, S&W 317 and 63 rimfire revolvers, a quiet Walther P22, Kel-tec PF9-22, Star S (.32ACP quasi-1911), HK P7, Kahr P9 and the SU22 shown here. Star S … Continue reading

Chronograph and accuracy data

Sometimes measurements confirm what we expect. For example, S&B 115 grain ball flies at 1060fps from an HK P7PSP but speeds up to 1340fps from JRC carbine. But I had no idea that 1980s vintage .22 Short fired from the … Continue reading
