People buy jewelry for others to make them feel better and happier. Often, jewelry indicates commitment. Replacement triggers are similar to that: they are small, somewhat expensive and make your interaction with the gun more pleasant.
Apex trigger for Smith&Wesson M&P pistol has been mentioned on Sayuncle blog for years. I finally got curious enough to try it and got one of my own. It does improve the pistol considerably.
I already have Timney triggers in my M48 Yugo Mauser and Ruger 1o-22. The next rifle to get the upgrade is the Superior Arms HBAR Varminter. It’s a 1/2MOA rifle but shooting that with milspec lower is challenging.
Triggers are great present for people who just can’t pull the trigger on a discretionary puchase for themselves. Make sure to figure out who — you, the recipient or a gunsmith — will install the upgrade.

The Apex Forward Set Sear kit for the S&W M&P transforms those guns. I actually tried an M&P with the FSS kit installed before I ever bought an M&P. I now have several M&P’s and all have some sort of APEX kit in them. The Glock and XD trigger kits I’ve tried can’t even come close to the feel and precision of the APEX FSS on an M&P. Have not tried the kit with the plastic trigger, looks more ergonomic than the alloy ones I have.
In my opinion there is only one AR trigger worth having, Geissele. They are the most rugged, reliable and best feeling triggers you can put in an AR. I’ve messed with most of the others, none come close the feel and useability of a Geissele.
I’d be very interested in a trigger job on my Ruger SR40c. Any favorites?
I second the Geissele, I have one and it completely changes the gun. Mine is the SSA-E.
Timney Triggers is owned by some really nice folks, and for a single-stage trigger they make a nice product.
Sure wish they would finally get around to making some nice drop in 2-stage triggers though.
No doubt, Timney are a bunch of good folks. I use their triggers in all my 10/22’s and several other bench type guns. Just not in any of the personal protection type guns that get run until they break.
I just can’t put up with a single stage trigger for anything serious.
I love aftermarket triggers. Rifle Basix to replace the gawdawful Savage Accutrigger, Canjar Single-Set for my 6.5-06 Gew98 Interdiction Rifle, Keplinger Single-Set for my Ruger #1S, Shilen for my Remington 700 BDL Custom Deluxe, Volquartsen for my Ruger 10/22, Timney for my Gew98 hunting sporter, JP Enterprises for my Colt Competition HBAR. In many cases, the trigger will either make or break the rifle, particularly when accuracy is the focus.
The Timney trigger in my 91/30 makes a HUGE difference. No worries on inletting the stock. I bought a spare in case I ever want to return the rifle to original configuration. It’s also nice to have an easily usable safety too.
