    EXIFtool: http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/

    or ImageMagick: http://http://www.imagemagick.org

EXIFtool will let you specify a directory instead of a file and it will format every file in that directory.

I have been begging Microsoft to release this tool for ages. (They already have the damn thing written!)

So far they have not complied, but this is the dream solution I think.

apparently there is a 3rd party GUI for the EXIF tool mentioned above.

This one, maybe. Can’t personally vouch for it, since I don’t work on quite the scale that you do as a professional photographer.
    UPDATED: Tested – see below

    MetaEditor 3.2.6.0
    http://www.freewarefiles.com/MetaEditor_program_42731.html
Application MetaEditor will allow you to edit all hidden metadata within your digital photos very easy and quickly. It supports JPEG and TIFF file formats, as well as batch processing with multiple files at once.
    Features:
-support for JPG and TIF photo file format
-edit EXIF, IPTC and GPS information in your photos

Tested it. From my quick look, it appears that you can only edit a few specific EXIF fields in batch mode. Happily, Author is one of them. If you need to edit others that aren’t in the default batch list, it looks like you have to do so individually and manually.

Another good one for Windows is irfanview http://www.irfanview.com/

On my Win7 box, selecting a batch of jpg’s, right-clicking and selecting “Properties”, opened the properties window with two tabs shown. Selecting the “Details” tab displayed EXIF data, and many, including “Author” were updateable/editable. RAW (CR2), are not editable in Wndows Explorer on my PC.

…Windows Exploder is a bit slow for batch editing file properties, but has the advantage of being there, and familiar.
