‘Bout damned time we saw a Nikon in use on this blog.
For what Oleg does, Nikon didn’t have a first-rate option available until quite recently (D800). The 5D was pretty much the only reasonable choice for studio work that didn’t support the $6k or worse pro bodies for quite a long time (the D3x was $8k when it came out).
For what *I* care about (low light, and some fast action) the D700 is amazing; ALL the good bits of the D3 PLUS some extras, for half the price! (Of course, it’s starting to get a bit old, and there’s no successor model in existence or on the horizon, so that may become a problem one of these years.)
Nikon system became viable for me only last year. What I would like is a D800 + 24-70, 70-200, 100 macro and 90 tilt lenses. Others would be optional. Even that switch-over would be prohibitively expensive.
Just giving Oleg guff. I know he’s been a Canon person for a long time, with good reason.
Having bought my Nikon bodies and lenses, I know how much it would cost a person to make the switch. I’m still in D200 mode, with a D70 as backup, myself. Waiting to win the lottery for my own D800 purchase.
